Training Camp Reviews
Gerard Turbitt, Omagh Triathlon Club: “As a Lanzarote Spring Training Camp Veteran [ 3 times] with Oliver and Paddy … I was delighted to have the new option for a trip to Mallorca.
Circumstances meant I arrived a day early before the rest of the gang.
And what an opener!!
Up early for the most beautiful sunrise ….a lovely swim before breakfast …just metres across the road from our lovely hotel. Then it was the first of a week to come of epic cycles.
Sa Collabra cycled twice !!…Cap Formentor …pure class rides on beautiful roads and fabulous scenery but for me the day I remember most was my cycle down to Soller and home….. just Oliver, Kate Kelly and myself [tail end Charlie] ….one great cycle especially for me when I needed a little “persuasion” from the Boss when I felt like turning and going home .
Yes the swims were great and the runs [ well they have to be done]…. but for me this week was “all about the bike”.
Trust me ..you won`t regret it …..a week of hard work ..good food ..great craic ..and friends for life”
Mark Rushby, Peninsula Triathlon Club: ”
Louise Sheridan, Tri an Mhi tri club: “So at the end of last year I decided I was going to do a full ironman distance my first ever full and that the chosen one be ironman lanzarote!! Some people thought I was mad but I believed I could do it , I got in touch with Oliver Harkin of primed coaching and the journey began late Oct , I attended the lanzarote training camp in April under the watchfull eyes of Oliver and tri coach Bjorn and it was brilliant ,my bike was my big thing that needed lots of work this camp definitely helped me with this,I certainly came back a more confident biker and stronger you can’t beat the wind hills and sunshine I met some great friends along the way and got to live like a pro for a week , sleep eat train repeat doesn’t get much better than that”
Lizanne Barnwell, Pulse tri club ” I spent a week with Oliver and Paddy on the Primed Coaching Warm Weather Training camp in Lanzarote, March 2016. I had heard great things about it and I really wanted to get away from the cold Irish weather for some serious cycling & training in the Lanzarote hills!
We met Oliver & the group of other like-minded triathletes at Dublin airport and off we went, full of enthusiasm and energy. The facilities were amazing, coaching brilliant and a lot of fun. It was hard work but it really paid off. My bike time has come down by at least 2 minutes (36 mins for 20km in 2015…. And 34 mins 20k now) It was not only a very enjoyable week, but highly effective in pushing you out of your comfort zone & getting in more cycling that you’ll ever be able to achieve in Irish climates!”
Donal Hughes “I’m a novice triathlete training away all alone here in Mayo. I joined Oliver’s Lanza training camp along with my two friends and can honestly say it was an excellent week.
I’ve been involved with sport at a high level all my life and although I don’t have the same level of ability in triathlon, I’m constantly learning and this was the place to do it. Swimming tips, strong consistent miles on the bike, runs in the evening; it’s the kind of focused training my life at home simply does not afford. It was like being a pro for a week. You got home every evening with a sense of achievement.
Don’t get me wrong; we ate steaks and never waved away a beer, but that week with Oliver and Paddy in Lanzarote was worth five at home.
The best compliment I can pay the lads is that I’m saving up already for next year!”
Siobhan Greer, Setanta Tri club ” When I signed up to participate in the Lanzarote training camp run jointly by Primed Coaching and PodiumFit, I really had no idea what was involved. As someone of mature years (59 at the time) who came into Triathlon only in the last two years, I had an ambitious goal of doing my first Ironman 70.3 this year and I knew I needed all the help I could get. My main concern heading out to Lanzarote was whether I could manage the week’s load – particularly could I keep up on the bike ( could I manage the climbs and more importantly the descents!!); what about the running – my weakest discipline – how would I fare out on these? There was nothing to worry about – I had an absolute ball! It was a demanding schedule – action packed from early morning to late afternoon but very manageable! I was relieved to find that the participants were a mixed group of people with different aspirations in triathlon. I didn’t feel in the least bit like an oddity – the group was very inclusive and the two coaches Paddy and Oliver gave great personal attention to everyone. The week was well worthwhile – for the cycling alone I felt it was terrific! I overcame my fear of descents – it took a few days! The cycling trips were fabulous – we cycled the length and breadth of the island and did some amazing climbs. I simply loved the cycling trips and this was of huge benefit to me – really brought me on. It was a very comprehensive week – great swim coaching both in the pool and in the open water; plenty of brick run sessions; strength and conditioning work. The whole group got on really well together and we have stayed in contact since – I met up with great people and we continue to support each other in our various events through the season. I really enjoyed the entire week – it was over far too soon. The sessions were challenging but the craic and banter between everyone helped keep the fun element to the forefront! In the evening we frequently dined out as a group and I thoroughly enjoyed the company and the craic. I am definitely doing this again in 2017! It made a massive positive difference to my training and fitness and by the way, I successfully completed the 70.3! One important recommendation – when you climb Mount Tabayesco, be sure to have the strawberry ice cream in the cafe at the summit – it will be the best you ever tasted!!”
Helen Murry, Hi-Elbow tri club ” An opportunity to attend the Lanza camp should never be missed. This was a lastminute.com for me, a promise of a week’s training in the sun, under the watchful eyes and guidance of Oliver and Paddy, and it certainly did not disappoint.
The camp was extremely well organised from the pre-travel brief, the choice of resort, daily training briefings, the training sessions, to the dining recommendations and arrangements.
I loved being away on this camp. It gave me the opportunity to meet and train alongside a new group of friends, evaluate how my training was going and benefit from other peoples’ experiences. Most memorable for me was getting into the open air pool at 7.00am on a dark morning, and within 10 minutes being met with “a glorious sunrise over the tents”. Cycling in Lanzarote will always be memorable. The group rides catered for all levels of ability and everyone was encouraged and motivated in each group. Each group developed its own camaraderie and there were plenty of opportunities to move between groups if you wanted to say cycle less than planned that day.
You do of course have to be able to sing along with Paddy, doesn’t have to be pitch perfect and pick up Oliver’s sign language pretty quickly 😉 single up, double up, rotate, interval time J… When this happens, the tried and tested method is to show no fear and don’t make eye contact, otherwise he thinks you’re not working hard enough J On a serious note though, the camp caters for everyone’s goals, whether you are working up to your first triathlon, whether you want to take your performance to another level, or gauge your training for an upcoming event. It is set up for you to get what you want to get out of it. Oliver and Paddy know how to push you and on this camp you will learn the skills and drills of getting more efficient on the swim, bike and run, and also learn how to strengthen hips and core.
My highlights from Lanza were: meeting a great bunch of new friends, improved fitness levels due to carefully planned sessions which in turn led to improved confidence in my own ability, group riding in a wonderful location, coached under the guidance of 2 great guys who know their stuff, (and Lanzarote inside out) and who practice what they preach…. It’s true – ice cream really does aid recovery J
Thanks Oliver and Paddy, I had a ball. Roll on 2017 camps, miss it and miss out.”
Aoife Mahony, Cork tri club ” I signed up for the training camp after signing up for IM Austria. It was a great motivator as I spent the winter focusing on getting fit for holidays rather than an IM in the way to distant future!
The camp was excellently organised, the location & accommodation perfect for a mix of training & relaxing. Early morning swims were a 20m stroll & were very well structured. We were suitable pushed but also did recovery sessions fitting to our training. Cycling was as cycling is in Lanza - hilly and windy! But the routes were stunning, the banter flowing & always a push on the back or a coffee stop when it was JUST needed. TTs back to base a memorable highlight! There were great options for refuelling in the town and no judgement to my nightly vino tinto! The coaches were very approachable & eager to share their knowledge & expertise. I found the camp very beneficial to my training and was notable stronger & more confident when back on home rainy soil. All in all a very enjoyable and educational training holiday. Thanks Oliver, I will be back:) "
Hana Kostková, Belpark Tri club ” Whether you are a competitive triathlete or just someone who’s looking for a bit of sun and fun combo, this camp is the right thing for you!!!
From swims in the morning (overlooking the sunset), leisure to very challenging cycles with the most breathtaking views to some runs in a scorcher, this is a week to be remembered.
Freshly made egg omelette every morning after couple km of swimming, Ironman smoothie in La Santa when your legs are about to give up on you and the monstrosity pancakes after dinner with your (now) friends and coaches… I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Oliver and Paddy are both very knowledgeable and friendly coaches, always there to help and guide you, to push you out of your comfort zone.
The training has a great structure and dynamic to it and provides you with a a solid foundation to build on for a season ahead. All the tips and hints shared by both coaches and participants will give you a huge advantage over your competitors.
I’m looking forward to compete against the feiends I met in Lanzarotte and meet after the race for some chats and laughs, exactly as we did during our training camp.”
Marijke Beltman “2nd year on the Primed Camp and can’t recommend it higher. Live and train like a pro for a week, no work just eat-sleep-train-repeat and that in the sun and on an Island which is has such a variety of roads and trails that you can train all you want without getting bored. Meeting and spending time with like minded people, sharing tips and tricks for all disciplines while having 2 excellent coaches around means that you come back tired but re-energised all the same. Not your typical holiday but definitely one I’d go on again!”
Deirdre Morrison “Had a great week in lanzarote, on Primed coaching training camp.
The training was very structured over the week and catered for all abilities, got great encouragement and advise from Oliver and Paddy .
The Training sessions were tough, but enjoyed every minute of it, especially the bike. Ilearnt alot over the week, but also had a good laugh with a great bunch of people. Aswell as the training we went out for dinner every evening and enjoyed a few well deserved drinks on the last night!
My Fitness has improved overall , feel stronger on bike and more confident now to enter first tri.
Would highly recommend this camp and looking forward to going back next year.”
Shona Keane “After a slow winter post surgery I decided to treat myself! I travelled solo and immediately was paired up with a great girl as roomie. I was desperately nervous about my weak beginner swim. Oliver and Paddy made it clear from the start that you’d work hard but there was a place for everyone to work on their goals regardless of distance. I loved the bike and every day it was a new challenge across “that bloody volcano”. The people I met could not have been more enthusiastic and encouraging! There were some great characters, craic and stories. Everyday is a school day for the entire week and having learnt so much I would love to travel again next year. Now entering short distance triathlons and duathlons and loving it”
Pierre Heuzé “As a triathlete, booking the Training Camp in Lanzarote is one of the best thing I did. The coaches, Oliver and Paddy, are really great and the week long camp is well structured, packed of activities, … and you will sweat as much as you will smile; that is a lot and in the way boost your fitness with long lasting benefit, learn new techcnical and mental tips and make some friends from all age, horizon and ability but driven with the same passion for triathlon…”

Grace Kelly, 3D TC “Been to lanzarote with Oliver and Paddy 3 years now and must have enjoyed it if I keep going back! 😉
If you’re looking for a relaxing sun holiday, this is not for you!
It’s a really well structured week with lots of early morning swims followed by a guilt free, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, lots of tough biking and some runs to keep you honest.
I’ve found both Oliver and Paddy very professional all week, and it’s a great way to meet other triathletes outside of your club. I would definitely recommend this week to anyone looking to break up a long winter of biking in Irish weather and wanting to get a build a good base of fitness early on in the season!”
Pat, Jessica and Michael Bruton, Cobh TC “Hi Oliver and all at Primed Coaching. I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to be on your Lanzarote training camp 2015. Some great cycling gave us better times this season on the national series tour. We made some great friends on the camp from all over ireland and indeed our paths crossed again during the season at different races, we even had a few nights out with them. The early morning swim has given me a few things to focus on too so looking at technical coaching between now and the new year.
Being on the training camp along with my adult son and daughter was great and it was great to see the reaction of all the other participants when they realised how we were related. All and all I found the Primed Coaching Lanzarote training camp 2015 a very positive and rewarding experience. Thanks Oliver and Paddy we will see you soon”
Nicola Quinn, Newry TC “I achieved more training in a week than I thought I was ever capable of, so it boosted my confidence no end about my ability. Frightening but that made it all the more rewarding when I did it. I had a great time, lots of laughs and almost tears. Thanks to the guys for the encouragement and advice. Professionalism of the camp was fantastic.”
Sam Cordner, Lisburn TC “A fantastic insight into what the life of a pro athlete must look like. A challenging program tailored to my individual level of fitness in a fabulous location with all the facilities you could need on the door step. The training, feedback and analysis from the expert coaches really helped me to make gains and to properly focus on the season ahead. Thoroughly enjoyed the training camp and escaping the winter conditions at home was a huge bonus”
Breda Daly, Midland TC “I attended the training camp with Primed Coaching for the last two season and found it perfect to get a big week training without the distraction of work or home. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced athlete if you are looking for a week training this is the camp for you.
My swim times improved immensely after a week of tough swim sets every morning before breakfast. Great breakfast buffet to fuel up before a hilly cycle and no getting away from the Lanza winds. There are plenty of people at similar levels to keep the pace steady on the cycles, if not you always have Oliver to keep you on your peddles!! Brilliant running tracks around the resort to choose from and again great guidance from Oliver on run sets. Paddy a chartered physiotherapist put us through our paces with S&C an session on our rest day!!
If you are planning on improve your times for the 2017 season or participate in your first sprint, standard, half ironman or ironman distance a great way to start is on a training camp with Primed Coaching. ”
Mick Purtill, Fingal TC “With a few races pencilled in the calendar for 2015, I decided to give my training a good kick start by doing the Primed Coaching Camp in March. The week was fantastic, plenty of tips on swim technique, many miles cycling the hills of Lanza, and some core strength sessions thrown in. The coaching was tailored to each individual, irrespective of ability and I really benefitted from it. I would definitely recommend the week and will be going back. Oliver and Paddy are a great team, it was a great week with some tough sessions, plenty of rest and a great location and the craic was mighty. ”
Jenna Henning, Lisburn TC “After a miserable winter what better way to get some training in but in a hot hilly and scenic island. A hell of a week, push yourself to your limits alongside a full squadron of other triathletes. Everyone is there looking to push their bodies to new physical and mental boundaries. Such an inspiring atmosphere to be in. I was early in my prep for my season with IM in September but it has driven me through many a hard session knowing and seeing how hard others can push themselves.”
Andy Kinane, 3D TC “Have been over in Lanza for a few years with Oliver and Paddy and have had a great time as well as a boost in fitness on each visit. All levels are catered for and everyone is encouraged outside of their own comfort zone. There is a great structure to the week which means you fit in far more than you are likely to do if going solo! Great location for a camp also with plenty of good cafes and restaurants nearby. Would recommend to anyone!””
Valerie Vaughan , Cork TC “Enjoyed the efficient use of time on the camp. It was great to get in the pool early and out on the bike by 10, which freed up the afternoons-evenings for a bit of rest and the option of enjoying the sunshine or afternoon nap before dinner . Optional runs and core work some evenings meant nobody got bored!
The bike hire was very straightforward and easy. Good quality bikes meant it was hard to hand it back last day too.
It was a pleasure to get out training mid winter on great road surfaces and in the sunshine.
We arrived mid training week but Oliver and Paddy were very accommodating with the structure of our training programme to help us optimise our time at the camp.”
Siobhan Gallagher, Sligo TC “The Primed Coaching training camp is a great way to up your training and aswell as that you’ll get to meet some like minded friends while doing it. The facility’s are great, you can literally roll out of bed and into the pool in the mornings and if you like hills on the bike then it’s definitely for you!”
Stephen Donnelly, Liquid Motion TC “I would really recommend the Primed Coaching training camp that we had in feb last,it set me up for a long season, not to mention a 27th overall finish in abu dhabi 2 weeks later all the sessions were well coached, along with the hard miles we swam, biked and ran there was also alot of fun ,staying in the sands beach resort also had its perks, eating brecki with triathlon legends was a real bonus “
Colm Hurley, Newry TC “Heading to Lanzarote for The Primed coaching ‘Lanza camp’ in March this year was a big time commitment for me. However the benefits were huge. I used the week as detailed prep and familiarisation for IM Lanzarote. The week in camp in a professional and structured environment brought my training and focus on in leaps in bounds. It meant that come race day nothing could phase me. The week was a great mix of hard training and recovery in a great location. Oliver and crew catered for lots of ranges in ability. I would love to head back in 2015!!”
Chris McNevison, Lisburn TC “After a week of warm weather training I had achieved huge gains in fitness, which proved to be a great kick start for a successful season. With the usual daily distractions miles away, the sun in the sky and the perfect location, it was a week of living like a pro – but much more craic”
Matt Molloy, Virginia TC “Taking on my first Ironman and Race Around Ireland this year I needed a challenging training plan with something extra. Primed Coaching organised training camp in Lanzarote provided that and more. Tough cycling in a spectacular location mixed with coached swim and run sessions provided the perfect platform for building the fitness needed for the tough year. Made some good friends along the way. Oh yea and good weather and plenty of good food in a great location to top it off.”
Eoin George, Pulse TC ” Ironman is a big commitment. That is all everyone kept telling me and knew if I was going to do it I wanted to leave as little as possible to chance. I wanted to do it right. The warm weather training camp with primed coaching was part of that. The week gave me the opportunity to get quality training in. The camp was expertly organised in a great location. No distractions. Just some of the best cycling in the world mixed with some quality swim, bike & core strength sessions. Ideal preparation with like minded athletes and coaches“
